What to expect from your apprenticeship
Unlimited opportunities
Australia currently needs skilled workers for positions across a range of important industries, but currently lacks the qualified people fill these gaps. The government is responding to this skills shortage by providing support to apprenticeships.
For job seekers, this means you’ll get the opportunity to further your studies with financial support and develop skills that will make you a highly sought-after employee throughout your career.
Mas’ purpose is to connect Australian Apprentices with employers, and provide support and guidance throughout the process. With Mas, you can expect to find a role that ignites your passion and provides valuable work experience. We work together with you, your employer and a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to create a training plan at the outset of your apprenticeship.
Transparency about your rights and responsibilities
Before starting your apprenticeship, it’s well worth knowing your rights and responsibilities so you have an idea of what to expect. As an apprentice, you’re just as much of an employee as the rest of your team.
This means you are entitled to similar working rights and conditions, like the National Employment Standards (NES).
You can read the full list in the “Introduction to the National Employment Standards” by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Transparency
Apprentices must also sign a formal training contract with their employer that is then registered and recognised by a state or territory training authority. Fair Work’s “A Guide to Starting an Apprenticeship” is a fantastic resource to ensure you start your apprenticeship on the right foot, covering:
- Your first day of work
- Your responsibilities
- Awards and fair rates of pay
- Taxes and superannuation
- Paperwork required
- Resolving workplace issues
- Apprenticeship checklist
Once we help you work through the legalities and paperwork, you will be on your way to an exciting entry into the right career for you. With the unique chance to earn while you learn, apprentices develop exactly the skills that employers are after, gain a nationally-recognised qualification and improve your long-term employability.
