What is a Concreter?
A Concreting Apprenticeship provides training in finishing and curing concrete for buildings, road, tunnels, bridges, driveways and other structures. For most jobs the concrete is pre-mixed, supplied and delivered to the job site.
Examples of tasks and duties:
- Read and interpret plans
- Site preparation including the digging of trenches when required
- Place, finish and cure concrete
- Use, clean and maintain concreting tools and equipment
- Carry out measurements and calculations
- Install formwork
- Place and fix reinforcement materials
How do I get into this trade?
To complete a Concreting Apprenticeship, you would have needed to graduate Year 10 with good results in English and Maths. Complete a Certificate I in Construction would be highly recommended if you have no previous work experience. You may also be able to start this spprenticeship while still attending school.
What does your career prospect look like?
Once you have completed your Concreting Apprenticeship, you can work as a Tradesperson or a may wish to consider working as a Concrete Pump Operator. With further studies and experience, you may wish to become a Supervisor.
